VAT: Southern Govs Should Pity Northern States, Allow FIRS To Collect VAT And Share It Among States.



Few days ago, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike came out and made it clear that the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, is no longer allowed to collect VAT in Rivers State. The Rivers State Governor also signed tax law and also inaugurated the Tax Appeal Commission in the state.




Based on that note, it was reported today that the governors of the southern states today made it known that they in fully in support of the Rivers State Governors decision on tax, stating it clearly that the collection of Value Added Tax, VAT, is the responsibility of the state government.

The 17 southern governors made this disclosure today, Tuesday, in Enugu State, during their meeting.
