The insistence of the governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike that taxes within Rivers state will be collected and controlled by the state governor has generated lots of comments and reactions.

Recall that the governor went further by getting the ruling of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt in its judgment last month in a suit marked FHC/PH/CS/149/2020 which held that the Rivers State Government had the powers to collect VAT within its territory.

Just in, the state governor has taken to his Facebook account to show off one of the cases that made him move to get a court injunction to collect taxes rather than the federal government collecting taxes within Rivers State.

According to Governor Wike in his Facebook post, "In June N15.1bn was generated as taxes in Rivers State but only N4.7bn was given to the state while Kano State generated N2.8bn from taxes and N2.8bn was given back to Kano State which means that Kano State received 100% as per tax generated from the state.

Hence, Governor Wike recounted that the above sharing formula was an injustice and that his insistence that Rivers State government will henceforth collect taxes generated within the state is not about him but about the system which should do the right thing.......Proceed to Get More Details
